[Update] the Launch of the OpenStory App and New Features

—

Hello.

OpenStory is a community for your favorite works, created together with fans.

We can’t tell you how long we’ve been waiting for the day we could share this news with you.

OpenStory is finally available as an app!!

Now you can quickly check the latest stories, fanworks, and project updates without missing a thing.

We’ve also updated a few features to make it easier for everyone to discuss their favorite works.

1. The OpenStory app has been released.

The OpenStory app has been released simultaneously on the iOS App Store and the Android Play Store. (*As of Korea)

Now you can quickly access OpenStory without having to type the URL into your browser every time.

• Enjoy easier access to your favorite works’ communities, fanworks, and projects anytime, anywhere.

• In the app, you can quickly check your feed and notifications via the bottom bar UI and easily access your favorite work’s “island.”

• If you enable app notifications, you won’t miss out on project updates, likes, and comments on your posts. (You can change this at any time in the Settings menu.)

• You can log in using the same account you used to sign up on the website, and all your existing posts, fanworks, and order history will carry over as is.

▶ [Android, Galaxy] Download from Google Play: (Play Store link)

(Note: Searching for “OpenStory – Webtoon & Web Novel Fan Community” in the app store and downloading the app would be a huge help to the OpenStory team! Since we’re still in the early stages, the app may not appear immediately in search results, and you may have to scroll quite a bit to find it—we appreciate your understanding.)

2. A “Copy Protection” setting option has been added to fanworks

For those of you who have been worried that your fanworks might be distributed without permission, we’ve added a “no sharing” setting that creators can enable themselves.

• If you enable “Copy Protection” when uploading a fanwork, right-clicking, dragging, and copying that fanwork on the web will be restricted. This is a small safeguard we’ve put in place so you can feel a little more at ease when uploading your precious creations.

• You can configure these settings separately for each fanwork. Leave the settings as is for fanworks you want to distribute widely, and enable the sharing restriction setting for those you’d prefer not to have shared.

• If you have your own guidelines regarding the “sharing” of fanworks you’ve created, feel free to briefly introduce them on your profile so other users can see them.

• Please note that the “Anti-Repost” setting is a supplementary measure designed to respect and protect creators; it is not a feature that can completely prevent all forms of unauthorized copying and use, such as screen captures or the use of third-party tools.

• When viewing fanworks, please respect the creator’s choices and rights, and refrain from saving, copying, or reposting content without the creator’s permission.

• If you find any content that does not comply with fanworks’ guidelines, please let us know via “Contact Us.”

3. You can easily view previous and next posts in the community.

Now you can browse all the posts on my favorite work, “Island,” in one place and leave likes and comments!

• We are also planning gradual improvements for the Community Post Editor and fanworks editor.

• If there are any other features you’d like to see added, or if you encounter any issues while using the app, please feel free to leave your feedback via “Contact Us” at any time.

• We will continue to make improvements so that you can more comfortably discuss your favorite works and upload fanworks.

4. Apple Login and Sign-Up have been added

Apple has been added as a social login option.

• If you use an iPhone or iPad, you can log in and sign up directly with your existing Apple ID.

• If your Apple ID uses the same email address as an account you’ve already registered, you can easily link your accounts during the sign-up process to use a unified account.
• If you select “Hide My Email” when signing up with Apple, your account will be created with a private email address. If you’d like to receive order and event win notifications via email, please create your account with the “Public” setting instead of “Hide My Email.”

5. OpenStory is now available in English (automatic translation supported)

More and more people from overseas are discovering OpenStory out of their love for Korean web novels and webtoons. You may have noticed that automatic translation has been partially applied to community posts and comments, allowing international fans to use the platform.

Driven by our desire to help you discuss your favorite works together, transcending language barriers, we are launching English language support.

• When accessing the OpenStory app or website from outside Korea, automatic English translation is supported. (The OpenStory app is available for download only from the Korean App Store.)

• Menu items, announcements, project updates, community posts, fanworks, and more are automatically translated. For users who speak languages other than Korean or English, the English interface is displayed by default.

• If you’d like to change the language, you can select either Korean or English directly in “My Page” > “Profile.” You can choose whichever language is most convenient for you at any time.
• Since the English text is provided via automatic translation, there may be some differences from the original text’s intent or phrasing. If you’d like to see the exact content, please change your language setting to Korean on My Page to view the original text.

• If you find any awkward or incorrect translations, please let us know via “Contact Us.” We’ll refine them to make the language flow more naturally.

We hope this update brings you closer to the stories behind your favorite works, and

So that you can share your precious creative works with greater peace of mind,

We hope this helps you share happy moments with even more fans.

We still have a long way to go, but we’re committed to reflecting on your feedback and making improvements, so please feel free to let us know what you think at any time.

We will continue to listen to our fans and work to make OpenStory a place where fan activities are even more enjoyable.

Thank you.
